On last night's WWE Draft Center show, after Smackdown Live went off the air, The Ascension were drafted in the eighth round as the 41st overall pick.
Konnor and Viktor were chosen before eighteen other wrestlers. The Ascension were chosen over other wrestlers who actually aren't injured or suspended, mind you. Even The Dudley Boyz - yes, one of the greatest tag teams ever - were chosen after them.

How could they not be one of the very last picks? Every possible mock draft in the world projected them to go in the final round. They haven't won a televised wrestling match in so long and haven't been treated seriously since the New Age Outlaws, The Band, and APA buried them into jobbing hell.
Obviously, from a smark standpoint, the writers felt they needed to toss them onto whatever brand had room, and they called their number too early. But that's not our style of thinking on this website. We think about everything in kayfabe.
So what's Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan's reasoning behind this? Does Bryan have an emotional investment in the duo as underdogs? Does Shane like their look because it reminds him of the goth stuff he was involved with in The Corporate Ministry?
It could be either of those. However, we can assume - and it's a giant assumption - that Ascension will actually be ascending for once.
With the Blue Brand having its own division - one without a championship for the time being - Konnor and Viktor could stand out. They could win matches. I could win the lottery too, but I'm not sure which one is less likely.
Regardless, the draft could do the team a favor and bring them back to a competitive status with other competitors.
Perhaps, Smackdown Live will get its own tag team championship, and Konnor and Viktor will get a shot at the belts. I mean, if Cliff Compton and Jimmy Snuka Jr. got a title run then why not these two? They are the 41st best wrestlers in the company, don't forget.
