The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever: WWE Backlash 2020 Presents The Event That Is Randy Orton vs. Edge

Everyone knew the moment Edge returned from a decade away and Randy Orton a decade of medicority, they would have to have the greatest wrestling match ever.
In the lead-up to Backlash 2020, WWE did something truly bizarre. The company tried to sell everyone on the idea that the main event between Edge and Randy Orton could be the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.

WWE did not even use the term "wrestling" much anymore, yet they sold this tagline like it was absolutely true. What ultimately came of the match is a bit complicated to discuss because it was neither bad enough or good enough to truly earn the title or backlash.

I was driven to write about it not because of the match itself but the way WWE presented the entire situation. It has never been more transparent that WWE wanted to prove a point that some absolutely bought in the end.

Quick Wrestling Thoughts: WrestleMania 36, Crowdless Wrestling AEW vs. WWE

4/7/2020

It has been a crazy time in the world. The outbreak of COVID-19 has left the entire world in quarantine, attempting to stop the spread of the first pandemic in decades. No one has gone unaffected.

Wrestling has been affected in a big way though perhaps avoided the fallout more than most entertainment and sports. WWE and AEW have felt confident enough to hold empty arena matches on closed sets.

It has been a unique experience, but the end result has been surprisingly effective. Both sides have made strides in a short time and delivered including WWE doing the unthinkable and holding WrestleMania 36 without a single fan in attendance.

There's so much to say on what has been happening, so I needed to sit down and put words on the page about where we all are at this point and how it has been both problematic and inspiring that wrestling has continued on.

AEW Revolution Results and Review: A New Era Built on Fresh Foundations

3/2/2020

AEW has been on an incredible run. Its February string of Dynamites was one of the best months of wrestling I have seen in a long time. AEW Revolution had major hype even with half the card thrown together in the last week.

The top matches had so much potential. Chris Jericho vs. Jon Moxley was a top notch main event match that was easily going to outshine their disastrous past. Cody vs. MJF had an incredible story behind it that had dominated AEW.

Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega vs. The Young Bucks was a story build over years to get to a match that had the easiest potential to steal the show.

It was to be an exciting night, and AEW certainly delivered on that.

Darby Allin became a star by taking "Skate or Die" far too literally. What a legend.

Quick Wrestling Thoughts: WWE Royal Rumble 2020, NXT TakeOver Portland, AEW Dynamite

It's been a while since I have talked about wrestling on here, over a month now. With a number of big moments over this last month, I thought it was about time to talk wrestling again.

Instead of a typical review though, I wanted to do something different. I just wanted to talk about whatever was on my mind so that I can focus on what I feel was essential. That will mean less structure to all of this and no direct results.

If you are coming into this looking for the results of the shows, I'd suggest just checking the Wikipedia pages. I'm here to just say whatever interests me about wrestling right now.

It was all worth it, all to get here. Okay, maybe not 3MB. Who am I kidding? Especially 3MB. (Image Courtesy of: WWE.com)

WWE Year in Review 2019: WrestleMania 35, The Rise of Becky Lynch, NXT Debuts on USA Network, and More

2019 in WWE started so well. I have rarely watched a Road to WrestleMania that was better. Even NXT brought its A-game earliest in the year. Stars emerged, and the best in the business got their due. It was a special time.

However, what followed grew progressively more frustrating. That same talent that was elevated was shoved to the side. Old stars emerged as well as celebrities so that WWE could appease Saudi Arabia more than the fans.

WWE told some of its worst stories in recent memory including telling a bad story with Mike and Maria Kanellis then telling it again with Lana and Rusev. This company just could not get out of its way.

Despite all that, there were many great matches and moments that defined this year, and I want to celebrate that rather than dwelling on the bad.

From the beginning of the year to the end, Becky Lynch outshined her fiance Seth Rollins. Somehow, he remains the more featured. Congrats, WWE, you played yourself.
